These terms are the agreement between you and (“Social Checkup”, “we”, “us”). They cover the Social Checkup website at socialcheckup.app, the Social Checkup Chrome extension and the reports we provide (together, the “Service”). Please read them before you use the Service. If you have a question, email [email protected].
1. What Social Checkup does
Social Checkup analyses information that is publicly available on Instagram profiles, such as follower counts and the likes, comments and captions of recent posts, and turns it into reports: engagement compared with similar accounts, content and posting patterns, brand partnerships, estimated rates and signs of inauthentic activity. You can use it through the Chrome extension, through the free audit on our website, and in your account.
Social Checkup is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Instagram or Meta. We never ask for your Instagram password and never act on any Instagram account.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- Give us accurate details and keep your email address up to date: we use it for receipts and important notices.
- Keep your password safe. You’re responsible for activity on your account, including through browsers you’ve connected to the extension. You can sign a browser out at any time from your account.
- An account is for one person. If you use the Service for a business, you confirm you’re allowed to accept these terms on its behalf.
3. Plans and prices
- Free: a limited number of reports each day showing the essentials (currently 2 a day). No payment details needed.
- Pro: a monthly subscription (currently €19.99 a month) that includes full reports, within the daily fair-use limits shown in your account.
- Full report: a one-off purchase (currently €10) of the full report for one Instagram profile, with no subscription.
Prices are shown in euro on our website before you buy. If VAT applies, it is included in the price shown. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card details. If we change the price of Pro, we’ll email you at least 30 days before the change applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
4. Pro subscriptions
- Pro starts as soon as your first payment goes through and renews automatically every month until you cancel.
- You can cancel at any time in your account under Manage billing. You keep Pro until the end of the month you’ve paid for; it then ends and isn’t charged again.
- If a renewal payment fails, Pro is paused straight away and comes back when the payment succeeds. If it can’t be collected, the subscription ends.
- Apart from your right of withdrawal (section 6) and your legal rights, we don’t refund part-used months.
5. One-off full reports
- You can buy a full report for a public profile after running its free audit. Reports aren’t available for private profiles, or for profiles where Instagram doesn’t show any posts.
- If our data for the profile is more than a day old when you buy, we collect fresh data first. Every report shows the date its data was collected.
- The report is a snapshot: it is kept in your account, unchanged, for as long as you have an account. It is not updated afterwards; you can buy an updated report or use Pro for the latest figures.
- If we can’t deliver the report you paid for (for example, if the profile’s data can’t be collected), we refund you in full.
6. Your right of withdrawal and refunds
If you’re a consumer (buying for yourself rather than for a business), EU law usually gives you 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase. Here is how it applies to the Service:
- Pro: you can withdraw within 14 days of starting a new Pro subscription by emailing [email protected] (cancelling alone just stops it renewing). Because Pro starts straight away at your request, we refund what you paid minus a fair amount for the days you had Pro.
- Full reports: a report is digital content delivered immediately. Before paying, you ask us to deliver it immediately and confirm that you understand you lose your right of withdrawal once it’s delivered. So once the report is available in your account, you can’t withdraw from that purchase.
- Faulty or missing reports: nothing in these terms affects your legal rights if what you get isn’t as described or doesn’t work. Tell us and we’ll fix it, replace it or refund you, as the law requires.
Refunds go back to the card or payment method you used, normally within 14 days of us agreeing them.
7. How you may use the Service
Use the Service lawfully and fairly. In particular, you must not:
- use it to harass, stalk, threaten, embarrass or discriminate against anyone, or to target children;
- scrape, copy or extract data from the Service in bulk, or access it with bots, scripts or anything other than our website and extension;
- resell the Service, share your account, or get around plan limits, security checks or rate limits;
- publish reports about other people’s accounts in a way that is misleading or unfair to them;
- try to break, overload, reverse-engineer or interfere with the Service or its security;
- break Instagram’s terms or anyone’s rights while using it.
Reports contain information about real people. When you use them to make decisions, for example about working with a creator, you’re responsible for doing so lawfully, including under data protection law.
8. About the data and our estimates
Reports are built from public information as it was when collected. Instagram doesn’t always show everything (some accounts hide likes, some restrict posts to logged-in viewers, and paid partnerships aren’t always disclosed), so reports can be incomplete. Grades, benchmarks, rate estimates and bot-risk scores are automated estimates to help you judge an account, not facts about it or guarantees of results. Please use your own judgement as well.
9. Ownership and your use of reports
The Service, including its design, software, scores and report layouts, belongs to us. While you follow these terms, we give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the Service and the reports you get from it for your own purposes or your business’s internal purposes, including sharing them with your clients and colleagues. If the report is about your own Instagram account, you may also share it with brands and partners. Public Instagram content in reports belongs to its owners.
10. The Chrome extension
The extension shows a card on Instagram profile pages. It only contacts our servers when you open the card. Google’s Chrome Web Store terms also apply to it. We may update the extension; some features need the latest version.
11. Availability and changes to the Service
We work to keep the Service running, but it relies on third parties (including Instagram, our data provider and our hosting) and may sometimes be unavailable or change. We may add, change or remove features. If a change significantly reduces what a paid plan includes, we’ll tell you in advance and you can cancel; if you have a one-off report, it stays in your account.
12. Our responsibility to you
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit, or your rights as a consumer.
- If you’re a consumer, we’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We’re not responsible for business losses, because the Service is for your personal use when you use it as a consumer.
- If you use the Service for a business, we’re not liable for loss of profit, revenue, business or opportunity, or for decisions you make based on reports, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or €100 if that’s more.
13. Suspending or closing accounts
You can stop using the Service at any time, and ask us to delete your account by emailing [email protected]. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or where the law requires it. Unless the breach is serious, we’ll tell you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we close your account without a good reason under these terms, we’ll refund any unused part of your Pro subscription.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we change the Service or the law changes. We’ll show the date of the latest version at the top of this page and, for important changes, email account holders at least 30 days in advance. If you don’t agree with a change, you can cancel before it applies.
15. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Irish law, and the Irish courts can hear disputes about them. If you’re a consumer living elsewhere in the EU, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country and can bring a claim in your local courts. If something has gone wrong, please contact us first at [email protected]; most problems can be sorted out quickly.
